ED VAIZEY serenaded pupils at King Alfred’s new music classroom with the Oasis hit Wonderwall – on a ukelele. The Wantage and Didcot MP, who was opening a new £1 million classroom block, picked the song after recently meeting Liam Gallagher.
The ukelele was made famous by 1940s variety entertainer George Formby whose catchphrase was ‘turned out nice again’.
Mr Vaizey said: “It was fantastic to visit the new block which will transform the way the school teaches music and the arts.
“Congratulations to all involved in making this much-needed improvement happen.”
The new fitness suite and classroom block at the school’s east site is the first step in a £6m renovation across its three sites, made possible thanks to its academy status.
The new facilities were paid for by a £661,000 grant from the Education Funding Agency and £400,000 from the school’s savings.
