TWO men were taken to hospital last night after emergency services were called to an incident involving hazardous chemicals.
At 5.40pm fire crews from Faringdon and Oxford were called to reports of an “unknown hazardous material” in Goosey.
Firefighters used breathing masks and specialist detection equipment to make the situation safe, working with South Central Ambulance Service and Thames Valley Police.
Rewley Road fire station manager Mike Adcock said: “Our specialist unit has equipment specifically designed to enable staff to detect and identify dangerous substances, which allows casualties to be treated quickly and appropriately by medical staff and for us to make the incident safe.”
Ambulance spokeswoman Catherine Morrow said two men who had been affected by the unknown chemical were taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital, in Oxford. Their injuries were not believed to be life-threatening, she added.
Police are understood to be treating the incident as a crime, but have so far not provided any information.
