JUST over 13 years ago, Paul Mason and his wife Iris adopted their daughter Megan.

In 2001, he founded Paul Mason Consulting, and for the last five years, with the help of his staff, he has raised more than £30,000 for the charity which helped them, Adoption UK.

In their latest stunt, 11 members staff, family and friends from the Abingdon company cycled 151 miles across England, from Whitehaven to Tynemouth, to raise £3,500 for the charity.

Mr Mason, 51, from Wantage, said: “My family has very personal experience of the value and support Adoption UK give.

“But I am just one of a number of people in the organisation engaged with the issues they deal in.

“Over the years we have climbed mountains, jumped out of planes, done all sorts of fundraising, and it is team-building as well.”

Although he did not join the cycle challenge on Sunday, September 11, he said members of staff “spontaneously” decided to take it on for the charity.

One of those on the ride, managing director Huw Thomas, said: “It was a challenging ride for all who took part, physically and psychologically.

“Although everyone trained extensively the team still got a bit of a shock on the first day, but the amazing camaraderie helped them with all the highs and lows.

“It has given everyone an overwhelming sense of achievement and memories they will never forget.

“They are now looking for the next challenge to help support Adoption UK.”
