A NEW residents’ planning charter for Wantage is going out for public consultation.

Questionnaires on the draft Wantage Neighbourhood Plan will be delivered to every home in the town and surrounding area over the next two weeks.

They have been put together by volunteers concentrating on topics and areas of concern suggested by residents. These include car parking, roads, footpaths and cycleway improvements, and increasing the commercial space in the town centre.

If the plan is approved by residents in a referendum, the document will be officially adopted by Vale of White Horse District Council to become part of planning policy for the town.

Developers will then have to prove they have taken it into account before they get planning permission.

Wantage mayor Fiona Roper said: “It is important that this plan for Wantage reflects the wishes of the community as a whole. I hope people will take the time to read it and we get a good response.”

Questionnaires should be deposited in special boxes at the Vale and Downland Museum, Waitrose, Sainsbury’s, the Beacon, and Wantage and Grove libraries. The deadline is December 3.

They can also be completed online at wantageneighbourhoodplan.org
