POSTAL workers received a visit from council leaders ahead of the busy Christmas period.

Vale of White Horse District Council leader Matthew Barber and vice- chairman Eric Batts visited Wantage’s delivery office to pass on some Christmas cheer on Wednesday.

Mr Batts said: “It was great to meet postmen and women at Royal Mail’s Wantage delivery office and see first- hand just how much effort they put into delivering for people at this time of the year.”

Delivery Office manager Jonathan Pardy said: “Our postmen and women are working extremely hard to deliver Christmas cards, letters and parcels.

“We are grateful that Mr Batts and Mr Barber visited the office to see our operation and to support the team during our busiest time of year.’’ He reminded people to post cards early to avoid disappointment “so friends and family have longer to enjoy their festive greetings.”

The recommended last posting dates for Christmas are:

Dec 12 – USA

Dec 13 – Europe

Dec 18 – Second class

Dec 20 – First class

Dec 23 – Special delivery
