A CONTROVERSIAL 200-home housing estate opposed by villagers is a step closer after a developer changed its application.

London-based Welbeck Strategic has included separate junctions for residential and employment traffic to its planned estate for Faringdon.

The company wants to build the new homes on a greenfield site between Faringdon and the village of Great Coxwell.

Villagers are fighting the plans, along with several other planning applications on land between Faringdon and the village, saying they will erode the distinction between the two.

Great Coxwell Parish Council hired planning expert Richard Anstis to write a response to the application.

It in, he wrote: “The site is a satellite location, identified in the [Vale of White Horse District Council] Local Plan as being in open countryside and within the Great Coxwell parish boundary and that in itself is a significant reason why it cannot be considered a sustainable extension to Faringdon Town.”

More than 40 residents have also commented on the plan.

The local authority said it would not make a decision on the application until an environmental impact assessment was submitted, as there were so many proposed developments in the area.

Welbeck has now provided this and submitted its amended plans to the Vale authority.
