WANTAGE and Grove Scouts delivered the first bunch of Christmas cards around the community last weekend.

The group is offering a local Christmas card delivery service during December.

The cards are delivered by hand by the Scouts after being dropped off at special postboxes around the town.

Beaver cub Arthur Gould has been a member of the 4th King Alfred Beavers for over a year.

He said: “I love it. There are lots of cool new things we learn, like how to make fire.

The seven-year-old, who lives in Charlton, is acting as postman for Fettiplace. He said: “First I sort the letters into piles of house numbers and then I put an elastic band round them so they are all organised.

“My mum will go with me to deliver them.”

The service runs until 1pm on Saturday, December 19.

Postage is 25p per card and payment along with the cards should be posted directly into one of the scout post boxes.

They are located at Charlton Post Office in Barnards Way; Campbells Opticians in Wantage; Charlton Garden Centre; Sainsbury’s and Waitrose in Wantage; Wantage Health Centre; Smiths DIY in Grove and the Grove Co-op.

All proceeds go to local Scout groups. Last year they delivered some 12,900 Christmas cards and raised £3,690.
