EXERCISE enthusiasts in Wantage can now work out in a newly-refurbished gym following a £127,000 upgrade.

The improvements were funded by Vale of White Horse District Council and GLL, which operates Better leisure centres, as part of an ongoing programme to upgrade facilities in the area.

It was officially opened by district council chairman Mike Badcock on Monday, December 14.

The Vale’s cabinet member for leisure, Charlotte Dickson, said. “The refurbishment and introduction of new equipment at Wantage Leisure Centre is a fantastic improvement.

“I am sure existing members will appreciate the investment we have made and hope that people from around the Wantage area who haven’t been to the centre for a while will come along to check out the new equipment.”

The centre has installed treadmills, recline bikes, crossovers and synchro machines.

The fitness studio is also now equipped with air-conditioning.

Partnership manager of GLL, Ben Whaymand, said: “Wantage is a hugely popular community facility. We’re delighted that local residents will be able to enjoy upgraded facilities and have the chance to try out some of the most modern and innovative fitness equipment on the market.

“As a non-profit organisation, we are committed to improving the facilities within the Vale over the long term and will work to encourage more local people to take regular physical exercise and enjoy the benefits that it can offer.”
