A LORRY caused damage to a museum and pub in Wantage yesterday after the driver attempted to make a turn in the road in Church Street.

Owner of the Swan pub, Craig Gradwell, said the lorry then got stuck width-ways across the road at about 1.20pm causing major traffic out of Wantage.

Mr Gradwell said: "The driver of the lorry was following his Sat Nav and I don't think he realised how narrow Church Street gets so he had to turn around.

"By which point he got stuck and blocked the road, causing quite a bit of traffic.

"It has caused some damage to the wall outside my pub and I'm not entirely sure how much it will cost to repair but we will be going through insurance."

Receptionist at the Vale and Downland Museum, Ann Rolls, said the lorry left Church Street by 2.30pm.

She said: "It was causing traffic for quite a while but there's not too much damage to the museum."
