A CARE home which turned itself around after failing a watchdog inspection is inviting locals to come and inspect for themselves.

St Katharine's House in Wantage has invited residents to come and have a look around at an open day on Saturday, March 26.

From 10am to 4pm the home will have Easter-themed activities for families and children.

The open day will also include a mobile virtual dementia tour, where visitors can get an idea for what it is like to suffer from Alzheimer's disease.

The home's manager Clare Francis said she wanted to show the community how hard staff had worked to turn the home's fortunes around.

She said: "The home has worked incredibly hard to make improvements that are now recognised by inspectors.

"Over recent years the negative reports have had publicity but out home is in a very different place now."

Inspectors from the care watchdog the Care Quality Commission identified four breaches of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 when they visited St Katharine's in November 2014.

The CQC issued the home with three compliance orders related to staffing, equipment and quality assurance.

At their latest visit in December 2015, inspectors rated the home "good" in every aspect.

Inspectors commented in their report, published in January: "People, their relatives, staff and visiting professionals felt the service was well led and were complementary about the manager and staff team.

"People felt involved in the running of the service and the manager was continually striving to improve the quality of care."
