A "GIANT funfair", live music, pig roasts and a gin wagon will fill Wantage Market Place on Sunday for the annual Wantage Carnival.

But organisers have postponed a Race for Life sponsored run in the morning because it clashed with a similar race in Oxford.

The Ray Collins Charitable Trust, which runs both events, has moved the race to September 25 in Manor Road recreation ground.

The trust is promising Sunday's carnival will be "one of the largest events Wantage has seen".

The fun will kick off at 11am when the giant funfair opens, including the Miami Wave, haunted house, helter skelter and "trampoline bungees".

The traditional parade, at midday includes classic and modern cars, sea scouts, cubs, beavers and fancy dress contest entrants.

Live music will start at 1pm with Escapade and continue with The Publix, Wantage Stage Musical Company, The 4 Canals, Boomerang The climax at 6pm is Growler.

Food and drink will include two pig roasts, gluten-free cheese dough balls, a licensed bar and a VW gin wagon.

Carnival-goers can also browse the usual range of market stalls, with arts and crafts, meade, jewellery, sweets and clothing.

A grand raffle will offer the chance to win one of two LED televisions, a glider flight or luxury food hampers.

The event, supported by Wantage Town Council, the chamber of commerce and local businesses, is due to finish at 7pm.

Money raised will be donated to charities and good causes.
