THE last hospital beds in Wantage are set to close indefinitely in the next few days after 89 years.
Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust is closing the inpatient ward at Wantage Community Hospital over fears there could be an outbreak of legionella bacteria in the water system.
An Oxfordshire-wide public health consultation starting this autumn will determine the future of all community hospitals, including whether the ward at Wantage will reopen.
Oxford Health announced in April it would cease admissions to the inpatient beds on July 1, and confirmed yesterday that last patients are due to be discharged in the coming days.
