A FORMER building society manager and amateur photographer has said he was "immensely proud" to be elected as the president of Wantage Rotary Club a second time.

Spencer Clubb, who already served as president of the fundraising group in 1995, has accepted nomination to the post again, taking over from Terry Cox.

In a statement the club said: "Spencer, who hails from Wrexham, has occupied many significant positions in the town.

"He first came to Wantage in 1976 as the manager of the Anglia Building Society, then, in 1988 he branched out to become an independent financial advisor, currently having his office in Lambourn Woodlands.

"Spencer was a stalwart of Round Table for many years, serving as their chairman in the mid eighties. He became a Wantage Rotarian in 1987, and has provided exemplary service to both the club and the community, over the years."

Mr Clubb is also a past Governor of Fitzwaryn special school in Wantage, and has volunteered with Wantage Independent Advice Centre, serving as treasurer until earlier this year.

When asked how he felt about taking on the presidency again, Mr Clubb said: "I am immensely proud to be asked to take on the role again, and I am pleased to say that the values and aspirations which were appropriate in 1995/ 1996 still hold true today.

"Rotary has been serving the local community for over 50 years and whilst we do not always make a song and dance about it, we go about things in our quiet, efficient way and try to make a difference, locally, nationally and internationally."
