A WANTAGE woman who ‘braved the shave’ in memory of her ‘beloved and slightly crazy’ nan has raised thousands of pounds.

Janna Perkins consented to have her head shaved as part of a charity night at the town’s Shoulder of Mutton pub on Friday, August 4.

She was hoping to raise £3,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support in honour of her grandmother Doreen Smith who lost her battle with the disease in June.

Ms Perkins said the night was a rousing success, especially the professional shaving carried out by Kirsty Holsman of Headlines in Wantage.

Her parents Roger and Christine Perkins also joined the fun to give moral support.

She said: "I can report that it was a great, albeit emotional, night and The Mutton was absolutely packed, there were even people on the street who couldn't get in.

"I haven't got a finally total as yet as there are still bits coming in, but I have passed the £2,100 mark."
