OUTLINE plans for a pub/restaurant, community building, play park and shopping area in a new 1,500-home estate have been submitted for approval.
London developer St Modwen, which is creating the 'Kingsgrove' estate at Crab Hill in Wantage has sent its plans in to Vale of White Horse District Council following an exhibition and consultation in the town.
Using feedback from that event, the company said the 'neighbourhood centre' should have 'traditional elements' with a 'contemporary aesthetic', reflecting the area's heritage.
Soft landscaping with 'pocket green spaces' should take priority over hard landscaping and parking, it said, and priority should be given to pedestrians over vehicles.
Local arts, education and social spaces such as restaurants and pubs should take preference over 'commercial interests such as food and non-food retail', St Modwen added.
Concluding its findings, the firm wrote: "The neighbourhood centre at Crab Hill is to be a vibrant area which contains a mix of uses to support the surrounding residential population."
The company said it would serve residents 'in the first instance', but also 'have the potential to draw people from the wider area'.
