AN award-winning curry house is forging ahead with plans to become a wedding venue.

The Snooty Mehmaan, on the A420 between Oxford and Faringdon, has won planning permission to build a new function room with 11 bedrooms – including a bridal suite.

Managers, who are hoping to be able to hold weddings and events all year round, were originally refused planning permission by Vale of White Horse District Council which said the 'size, scale, mass and design' of the proposed extension 'failed to respond appropriately to the existing building on the site or to its surroundings'.

However the restaurant appealed against the decision and won.

Now it has sent its final designs to the council to be signed off.

Members of public can see those designs online at whitehorsedc.gov.uk using application reference number P18/V0840/DIS.

The Snooty Mehmaan has won several industry awards since it opened in 2010.

In May 2014 Wantage MP Ed Vaizey nominated the restaurant for the Tiffin Cup – a competition to find the best South Asian restaurant in the country.

In September 2016 the Mehmaan scored a one-star hygiene rating, but it bounced back with a five-star score in February 2017.
