St George's Day was celebrated around the county over the weekend to mark England’s patron saint’s day today.

Flying the flag was 41-year-old delivery driver George Small from Wallingford, who transformed himself into St George to greet shoppers at a charity market in Wallingford on Saturday, also attended by the town’s mayor Colin Dolton, pictured.

Mr Small said: “It was lots of fun – there were children walking past giving me funny looks. We celebrate St Patrick’s Day and St David’s Day, so we should celebrate our own patron saint too.”

Oxford came to a standstill yesterday, inset, as Scouts paraded through the city streets from Broad Street to Oxford Castle led by 17-year-old standard-bearer Andrew Miller, from Kidlington, who said: “It’s quite a big privilege to get to hold the flag. It’s a big event in the Scouting calendar.”
