Richard Barnson
Virgin boss Richard Branson, left, has once again been named as Oxfordshire’s wealthiest person in The Sunday Times Rich List.
Mr Branson, who has a house in Kidlington, has had a good year, climbing three places over the past 12 months.
He is now worth £3.4bn, putting him in 16th place overall, and his wealth has grown by £325m.
The list is published each year, ranking the richest men and women living in the UK.
Firoz Kassam, who owns Oxford United’s home ground as well as Heythrop Park near Chipping Norton, saw his wealth grow by £15m but dropped 25 places.
He is now worth £217m and sits in 359th place.
Meanwhile the Duke of Marlborough, whose family owns Blenheim Palace near Woodstock, is in 718th place and valued at £105m, up £5m from last year.
He is just below Sir Frank Williams, owner of Formula 1 team Williams which is based in Grove, who has jumped 21 places to 682 and is now worth £110m.
Harry Potter star Emma Watson, who went to Headington School, is in 17th place in the richest young people list.
The 22-year-old is worth £26m.
Oxford Brookes University graduate Jonnie Shearer is a new entry at number 30 among the richest young people after his natural energy drink Pussy gave him a wealth of £8m.
Britain’s richest man is steel tycoon Lakshmi Mittal, who is worth £12bn.

Love to see his tax return, bet he pay's next to nothing while the rest of this country's working class hero's pay through the nose !

I also bet he does more for charity in a week than most people who comment on here do in their lifetime. He also provides jobs and salaries for a few thousand people who in turn pay taxes, he's also managed to shake up the traditional way businesses run (airlines, banks, multimedia). Good on him.

Why do people still insist on posting guesswork as if it's actual fact. Betting what a massive tax avoider does for charity is completely irrelevant.

Richard Branson, another one of the rich who have increased their obscene wealth while disabled people and ordinary folk in this country take the pain.

Thing that gets me is that the poorer group of people in the world dont realise how many amazing things they have on offer. Yes you may sometimes loose one benifit but another pops up somewhere else. Back in the day poor people couldnt afford heating, it wasnt so long ago that not all houses had landlines or toilets built inside the house, central heating? i see people moan today because they cant afford to walk too feet out the door. Yet they have the latest plasma tv next to a top of the range car, in a warm house, personally i feel that the greedy nature of the poor is what has driven the country to have to put its prices up. Think about it there maybe rich people in the world but they spend most of there money making products for us to use and keeping us happy. We cause the hike in prices via our demands.
So if you want a better future, stop being so greedy!
