PUB manager Robyn Cuthell is looking forward to toasting the Olympic Torch from one of the best vantage points in East Oxford.

Miss Cuthell, 28, is the manager of the Cape of Good Hope, where Cowley Road and Iffley Road join The Plain, and says she expects a packed pub today as people gather to join the celebrations.

The history graduate, who has lived in Oxford for the past eight years, said there would be space for about 300 people at the pub, including 50 on the pavement outside.

She said: “I love watching sport from my armchair and I’m really looking forward to the Olympics.

“The Olympic Torch coming to Oxford is one of the biggest events I have known and everyone round here is very excited about it.

“The pub will open from noon and the upstairs bar will be open from 3pm. I would advise people to get here as soon as they can to get a good spot to see the torch come down Cowley Road.

“They can buy a beer, a Pimm’s or a soft drink so they are ready to celebrate the torch coming past.

“Some people will come along after work and with the South Park concert in the evening there will be lots of people milling around.”
