WITH the end of the summer and signs of autumn approaching, we at Sew Very Vintage have been thinking about interesting craft workshops to inspire.

So if you are looking to learn new craft skills or wanting to start making presents in time for Christmas take a look at the classes we currently offer.

The ever popular needle felted hare, robin and penguin are on the autumn list.

Needle felting workshops are suitable for beginners or more experienced crafters.

Using a special barbed felting needle and dyed raw roving, participants will be taken through the techniques needed to make a 3D sculpture.

We are also offering a felted picture workshop which uses similar techniques and materials on a flat surface, if you have never tried felting before it can be great fun and very rewarding.

If you’re thinking ahead about crafty gift ideas we stock a range of needle felting kits by Hawthorn Handmade who design and make up their kits to include detailed instructions and all the materials needed.

But if you are feeling more creative we have many colours of wool roving and felting needles available in store too.

Other exciting workshops include Powertex angels, Christmas tree, fairy houses and Mixed media canvases.

Our iconic mermaid who has recently sold is made from this fabulous and versatile product.

Powetex is an environmentally friendly, water based, liquid sculpting medium which can be used for hardening fabrics and absorbent materials such as textiles, paper, cardboard, leather and fiberglass, it can be easily combined with self-hardening clays, concrete, stone, ceramic, wood, sand and Stone Art powder.

You will be taken through all the steps to create your beautiful and unique mixed media canvas under the expert tuition of Madeleine Tanner, approved Powertex Trainer.

You will learn lots of tips & techniques throughout the session to enable you to continue with own Powertex projects at home.

Once dry the finished sculptures are weatherproof making them suitable for garden ornaments as well as indoor decorations and mixed media pieces.

We stock a selection of other crafting materials from chalk paints, unusual buttons, craft books, hand dyed silks and threads to decorative door knobs, miniature clasps, hinges and book corners so if you’re in need of inspiration come in to Sew Very Vintage for a browse.
