I KNOW it’s normal to get excited about the summer months, but for me autumn is where the magic happens, and this year has been no exception.

As Rambles Pet Care has been up and running for more than 12 months now, it means I and the team have stomped our way through all of the seasons.

We’ve witnessed first-hand how our favourite walks, trails and places change over the course of the year, and it’s without a doubt that autumn comes up trumps for me.

Hear me out. In summer, we’re desperately waiting for the temperature to topple over 20 degrees, and when it does there’s a hose pipe ban. The honest autumn season however, does not evoke the same disappointment. Instead, it promises us consistently cool temperatures, but without as much rain as winter, making it the perfect time for a good old ramble along the Ridgeway with the dog.

With the sun lower in the sky, our dog walks through the Oxfordshire countryside over the past few weeks have been touched by a golden glow and everything feels a bit more atmospheric. The colours are magnificent too: spectacular display of reds, yellows and gold leaves before they fall to the floor and pave our way in autumnal colours – making the perfect backdrop for posing pup pictures! (Find us on Facebook for some of the best snaps).

Of course, they’re not only enchanting to look at: the autumn leaves also provide endless entertainment for humans and pets alike. We’ve had great fun watching the Rambles doggies excitedly jumping into the bundles of leaves, kicking their way through them and crunching them under their paws, the last few weeks.

There’s no denying that working outside this time of year means being exposed to some terrible weather conditions, but one of the things I love most about my job is that I get to witness the seasons change firsthand. When working in an office, I could easily miss the snowdrops in winter, the daffodils in spring and the conkers fall in autumn, but dog walking in the countryside everyday means I now never miss a thing.
