If you’re still looking for that special Christmas gift, come to Wallingford Local Producers Market this Saturday from 10am to 1pm – we will help you find the perfect present!

You will be surprised by the creativity and artistic abilities of the photographers, artists, jewellery-makers and knitters, all gathered inside the beautifully-decorated St Mary’s Church.

Wallingford is a great place to shop for unusual gifts because the town is well-known for its independent shops where you will find an extraordinary variety of beautiful crafts and textiles, clothes, bags, ingenuous handmade ornaments, pretty jewellery and ceramics.

What makes the weekly Local Producers Market so special is that customers are able to meet the artists, jewellery-makers and other craftspeople to find out more about their work.

Among them will be John Hailstone, a photographer who captures the power of nature in his images of flowers, leaves, water and woods. His images sparkle with sunlight and the colours of flowers cheer up any winter’s day.

Local scenes by Wallingford-based artist Mark Wood are very popular at this time of year, and his cards of cute puffins, hares, cows and barn owls are perfect for those thank you cards in the new year.

Two jewellers with distinctive styles will be at the market on Saturday.

Tracy Koster from Abingdon makes glass beads using a lampwork process to create swirling colourful designs. You’re sure to find the right gifts among her necklaces, bracelets, key rings and ear-rings. These are unique designs because Tracy makes the beads herself.

Mel and Barb Goodbun from Caversham have developed their own ranges. Mel creates unusual silver jewellery using spoons and forks to create rings and bangles. All these upcycled beauties keep their original hallmark and have a new ‘change of use’ one added by the London Assay office.

Barb makes funky and colourful glass brooches, earrings and necklaces, some of them incorporating dichroic glass.

Barb also creatively transforms vintage costume jewellery into new pieces.

This Saturday we are joined by South Oxfordshire author Liz Harris with her fascinating novels: The Road Back, A Bargain Struck, The Lost Girl, Evie Undercover and The Art of Deception.

WLPM was set up 10 years ago to champion the best of locally produced food, drink and crafts from within 30 miles of the town.
