Have you seen the recent interest in refill stations?

What’s that you ask?

It’s usually a shop where you can go to have your own laundry containers refilled.

Wantage now has a SESI one in The Mix – Sustainable Wantage's community space – offering laundry liquids and ginger-scented washing up liquid. Great news.

But these refill stations are popping up all over the UK.

Many offer just laundry and cleaning refills, but as a means of keeping single-use plastic out of your household they are a great resource.

But, of course, Wallingford has had one for many years, it just hasn't been advertised as that.

I am talking about Just Trading in St Mary's Street.

Take your empty containers to refill with laundry liquid, hand soap, shampoo and shower gel.

Friendly staff will help if you don't want to do it yourself.

If you like not having more plastic shoved at you, you will also enjoy buying loose goods like dried fruit & nuts, oats, peas, lentils, rice, etc.

In fact most dried goods. You can reuse a plastic container or bring a bag or jar. If you forget your own container, there are various sized cellophane bags to buy. There is a good selection of already-packaged goods.

You will find so much more – everything from groceries to gifts, clothes to essential oils, gift wrap to greeting cards.

Everything is either Fairtrade or organic, including a good choice of gluten-free and vegan products.

It's where I buy my favourite chocolate, tea, coffee, loo rolls, summer tops, pyjamas, birthday gifts. Want to colour your hair or try a new face cream? You can get it there.

You can also order a weekly veg box of fresh, local veg supplied by Tolhurst Organic Farm. Come and see just how much is on offer. It's a proper Fairtrade emporium well worth an explore.

Late-night opening hours are on Thursdays until 7pm and Fridays until 6.30pm or normal hours are 9am-5pm Monday to Saturday.

In case you didn’t know, Just Trading of Wallingford is a workers' co-operative, committed to helping producers and co-operatives in developing countries to sell high-quality, hand-made goods and organic produce at fair prices.

Fairtrade helps communities to move out of poverty and organic produce is pesticide- and chemical-free and has a much lower impact on the environment.
