Sir, The Independent Advice Centre, Wantage, provides very valuable support to local residents in many areas — advice on a wide range of topics, volunteer transport for the elderly and infirm and a Good Neighbour Scheme.
It is held in high regard by our clients and by local organisations. We achieve this with a small number of paid staff and about 90 volunteers.
We are always looking for new volunteers in all three areas, as our workload is steadily increasing with the new house building in the area and the ageing population. If you are able to spare a day a week or more, we would be pleased to hear from you.
Also, we have two vacancies on our management committee. We are keen to recruit new members from the local community to help the committee determine the strategic direction of the centre, the management of the paid staff and to ensure the overall operational health of the organisation.
There are five meetings a year. Additional project work is sometimes needed and applicants with business experience or previous experience of the charity sector would be especially welcome.
Members are elected at the AGM, which this year is being held on Tuesday, July 15, at The Beacon (formerly Wantage Civic Hall) at 7.30pm. If anyone would like more information on any of the above roles, please contact Lisa or Wendy on 01235 765348 or email help@wantageadvice.org.uk
