Sir, As a lover of real ale, I was pleased to see you refer to the new edition of the Good Beer Guide in last week’s paper.
However, I was disappointed that your report didn’t pick up on the fact that The Plough in Long Wittenham has entered the guide, perhaps for the first time ever.
It has been over ten years since our beloved Machine Man Inn in Long Wittenham closed, which was a regular in the Good Beer Guide.
We have an excellent curry house/pub in The Vine, but Long Wittenham has been a bit of a real-ale desert, but not any more! Liam and Kim, the new landlords in the Plough, have worked really hard to improve the pub, and have two or three guest beers on at any one time — one is always from a local micro brewery.
I’d say the Plough has earned its place in the Good Beer Guide and the food is also well worth a try!
