Sir, Congratulations to whoever organised the quite wonderful exhibition, displays, various stalls and gatherings for the First World War Heritage Day in the Market Place earlier this month.

It was so uplifting to see and hear the enthusiasm of both young and old as they spoke to the various stallholders, all dressed in the uniform of their particular branch of the services, enlightening all of us as to the use of the items on display.

What a wonderful collection, from butter making in a small churn and a small music hall wagon to two beautifully behaved horses, a Vickers machine gun, nurses and surgeon’s equipment.

Who will forget the young boys (cadets) giving a humorous example of how not to do rifle drill, with a lasting memory of the quite wonderful Military Wives Choir, leading crowds of people in singing the popular songs of the day.

As I said to a lady adjacent to me: “I bet you didn’t think that you would be here this Saturday morning singing, I do like to be beside the seaside.” “No,” she said, “but isn’t it wonderful!”

Once again, on behalf of many of us, well done, one of the best entertainment events that I can remember.
