Sir, On Saturday, January 13, there was free swimming at the White Horse Leisure and Tennis Centre. This resulted in a shambolic lack of organisation for controlling numbers.

Obviously there are maximum numbers allowed in the pools, but there was no apparent system for counting people in and out of the two small pools. A waiting list and wristband system was in place, but there were swimmers in there with no wristbands on, and it just didn’t work.

There were families with young children having to wait up to an hour, while swimmers were leaving the pools to the point they were clearly not at capacity. When they were finally able to get the coveted wristband, they had to be tracked down by a receptionist as the tannoy cannot be heard.

When we finally got in the pool, it then filled very quickly, many more people than the whole time we had waited.

If this is intended to encourage people to use the facility, then it was not encouraging.
