Sir, I very much welcome Aldi to Didcot. However it will greatly add to the traffic congestion in that area – as I experienced.
Traffic was backed nearly to the roundabout trying to get into Aldi. People had to queue to get into the car park.
To turn right out of Aldi's road was impossible – so I turned left to go around the roundabout under Marsh bridge to double back into Didcot. However, that roundabout was 'clogged' with traffic trying to get into Didcot as well!
The car park at Aldi is far too small. Aldi is not just serving Didcot but the surrounding area.
I know it was the first opening day for Aldi but With the prices of goods on offer – I foresee a regular high customer throughput. One way perhaps to alleviate the traffic problems is for it to open 24 hours!
I previously made my views known that while Aldi is a welcome addition to Didcot, it was going to be in the wrong place and traffic problems would arise.
Now Aldi's is here, let the battles begin between the supermarkets fighting for our custom!
The issue of traffic and parking in Didcot really does need to be addressed.
