Sir, I can only think that the appeal for local people to have their say in the transport strategy for the next 15 years (Wantage edition of the Herald, April 1) was an April Fool’s Joke.
The sheer scale of changes needed to cope for an estimated 100,000 new homes by 2031 hardly bears thinking about, given that the smallest of hold-ups on the A34 causes gridlock already.
A group called ROAR (Rural Oxfordshire Action Rally) is dismayed by the already-announced plans to add large developments to small villages across the county.
Sending out questionnaires is just a sop as no notice needs to be taken as to what people say.
We need local plan referendums that don’t get overridden by district councils controlled by central government dictats.
