Sir – It was good to see that the Royal British Legion Branch in Wallingford has been saved with new volunteers (Wallingford Herald, July 1).
Many of the Oxfordshire Legion Branches are suffering the same problem; the lack of members and those wishing to give their time to care for the lives of the Armed Forces family, past, present and future.
The Benson & Ewelme branch with only 12 active members nearly suffered the same fate a few years ago but for a few new volunteers. There is a need however for more volunteers to come forward to keep the Legion working in our communities.
We too have a female chairman since November last year and she is leading our small branch to a positive future with branch trips and guest speaker nights organised. Support for the Legion is as needy today as it was at its inception back in 1924.
