Sir – The red-brick Charter building in Abingdon comes in for a lot of criticism.
There is even talk of pulling it down and redeveloping the site. I hope they don’t do it.
The Charter is a fascinating place: round bits, square bits, pointy bits, lots of nooks and corners and interesting shapes, covered spaces and arches, overhead walkways, old stone folly, grassy landscaped area with shrubs and wonderful trees, a bean tree now in full flower and a mulberry now in full fruit.
All it needs is a bit of imagination to fill it with life and it would be fun to explore and a vibrant attraction in the town.
