Sir – Oxfordshire’s stunningly ineffective pothole repair performance was highlighted in last week’s Herald.

Not only is the county council wasting about £19m per annum on poor quality and ineffective repair work, but is also wasting yet more money on having to compensate motorists and cyclists as a result.

Other counties have recognised that newer infrared road repair technology produces better quality and more sustainable road repairs, saving money, time taken to repair, and inconvenience to road users.

Already, Hampshire CC, Brighton & Hove CC, Worcestershire CC, Dorset CC, Northamptonshire and the London Borough of Croydon have been using this technology with reportedly very favourable results.

Road surfacing technology with a 10-year guarantee is also available; why is OCC not adopting these more effective and cost-effective technologies rather than continuing to stick with the costly pig’s breakfast of potholed and poorly repaired roads the public is unfortunate enough to have to drive about on?
