Sir – With reference to the proposed new ring road, to alleviate pressure on the Jubilee Way roundabout in Didcot (Herald, October 28), would not a far simpler – and much cheaper – alternative be to reduce the size of the existing central island?

This would allow two lanes of traffic to circulate, considerably easing the current queues. I realise this would require some widening of roads where they access the roundabout, but at a time of financial pressures, surely this is an aspect well worth considering.
