Sir – Mr Rodney Rose, Oxfordshire County Council’s deputy leader, must either have a very poor knowledge of local geography or is wilfully misleading the local population.

To state, as he did (Herald, Nov 4), that fly-tipping wouldn’t occur if selected waste recycling sites were to close because another one is only five minutes travelling time away is astonishing.

In my own case – and I used the busy Stanford in the Vale facility today – it is six miles from my home as opposed to 20 miles to Drayton. That is not five minutes extra.

Furthermore, it is simply not credible for Mr Rose to claim that fly-tipping will not increase if facilities are closed – and that is even before the expected population growth as a result of the huge planned increase in new homes in the Vale.

We are privileged to live in such beautiful and rural surroundings and it is disappointing to read such blatant misinformation, carelessness or arrogance from one of our elected representatives.
