Sir – This past week saw the foolishness of demolishing Didcot Power Station.

During a becalmed period of weather, the National Grid found renewable wind energy insufficient and needed to call up alternative supplies.

Back-up gas and oil generators are both heavily subsidised and not very green.

With other power stations already closed and those awaiting such a fate it is becoming blatantly obvious that the security of our power supplies is playing second fiddle to an obsession to meet unrealistic renewable energy targets.
