Sir, I was surprised and disappointed to read the comments by David Dodds about the roll-out of the new waste service across South Oxfordshire. There have been many problems caused by the way this process has been implemented, and I'm afraid that what I hope will be a very useful and effective new service has been marred by what I can only describe as a lamentable introduction.
The imposition of bins on some homes which clearly cannot accommodate them, the appalling way in which problems have been dealt with, and the complacency which Cllr Dodds seems to be showing have all very much annoyed local residents.
It would not be a sign of weakness to admit that the process has not gone well at all, but rather a realistic acknowledgement that mistakes have been made and need to be sorted out very quickly indeed. To say that a system is working well when some people still don't have a way of disposing of waste after four weeks (as at the end of next week, by which time all sacks should have been delivered to homes) is a dreadful acceptance of an unacceptable situation.
I only hope that despite this apparent complacency, lessons will be learnt and that residents in the Vale will not suffer as we have.
