Gordon Ross has no plans to hang up his boots just yet as he prepares to make his 100th appearance for London Welsh today. The 34-year-old former Scotland fly half brings up his century for the Exiles in the LV= Cup at Harlequins after an impressive return to top-flight rugby this season.

Ross, who has previously played for Edinburgh, Leeds, Castres and Saracens, is one of the Aviva Premiership’s most accurate kickers in 2012-13.

Ross, who won 25 caps for Scotland, only learnt he was on 99 appearances this week.

“I knew it was quite near, but I didn’t know I was that close.” he said.

He added: “I have really enjoyed my three and a half seasons. I have seen a lot of changes and have managed to stay relatively fit.

“If I can keep doing that, I should be able to play for a bit longer.”

Ross looked set to provide back-up to new signing Gavin Henson this campaign, but with the latter injured, he has shone.

He said: “My form has been good, but I have been fortunate to have a lot of good players in the team, who make that possible.

“There’s still a few things I need to work on.

“There have been a couple of bonus points I could probably have earned with kicks at goal.”

Ross and his teammates have certainly exceded expectations to lie ten points above the Premiership relegation zone.

But he stressed: “What we have done so far will count for nothing if we can’t carry it through.

“We are working hard in training to achieve that. We have a huge month to come in February and we need to be in good shape.

“If we can have a good few weeks, we can be looking up at teams above us and pick off one or two of them.”

With the Six Nations beginning next weekend, Welsh are unlikely to be disrupted by international call-ups.

“I think it will help definitely,” said Ross. “We can have continuity when others may not.”

There will, however, be no lack of interest in the tournament from Welsh players.

Ross said: “When Scotland picked up the wooden spoon and also lost all their autumn internationals, I may have been keeping pretty quiet.

“But if Scotland win, they will know about it, don’t you worry.”
