FOOTBALL: Abingdon United slip to another loss after first win
7:55pm Wednesday 16th October 2013 in Sport
Five days after breaking their duck in the Uhlsport Hellenic Lea-gue, Abingdon United returned to their familiar form by crashing 5-0 at home to Flackwell Heath on Saturday.
Abingdon claimed their first league points at the 14th time of asking with a 3-2 success at home to Shrivenham last Tuesday.
But on Saturday, they never recovered from the dismissal of player-manager Lewis Noble on the half-hour for a second yellow card.
There was no score at the time, but Flackwell took the lead through an Adam Dickens free-kick after 35 minutes. Abingdon’s ten men held out until the last 20 minutes when they conceded goals to Gavin James (2), Lee Thompson and Marcus Mea-ling.
United’s Wade Rutherford was shown a red card for bringing down Mealing, but keeper Chris Rackley saved the resulting spot-kick.
Wantage Town remain top following a 3-0 defeat of Holyport with Richard Claydon scoring twice – one from the penalty spot on the hour following a foul on Matt Pedder, who completed the scoring four minutes later.
Abingdon Town lost 5-0 at Highmoor Ibis, Ray Spence hitting a hat- trick along with goals from Tristan Campbell and Steve Peacock.
Milton United’s Ross Tyler has decided to retire on a doctor’s advice after seriously breaking his jaw against Henley Town.
Meanwhile, Milton are looking for a candidate to take over their reserve side.
The team plays in North Berks League Division 3 and last season finished in mid-table, in their first year back at that level.
