GREENE KING IPA CHAMPIONSHIP

LONDON Scottish head coach James Buckland was full of pride after his side’s battling 13-5 victory at the Kassam Stadium.

Scottish climbed to second after the victory over London Welsh, which Buckland felt underlined their potential to make the play-offs.

He said: “We hung on in the first half and Welsh lost quite a few scoring opportunities, which on other days they would have got.

“But the effort in defence was outstanding all game.

“We knew it was going to be a huge effort and we are just really pleased to come away with it at the end.

“The boys have been building up for this for a long time.

“The motivation was there and the guys delivered, which was really pleasing.”

Scottish have proved a surprise package this season, but Buckland says they will have to battle to keep their place in the play-off race.

“We know if we want to stay in the top four, we have got to win games like this,” he said.

“There is still going to be a bit of yo-yoing before the end of the season.

“But if we are serious about it, we have got to win these games “We want to be in the top four and on that performance we deserve to be there.

“Now the pressure is on to maintain it.”
