Fiona Bunn maintained her strong recent form with victory in the final round of the Apex Sports Chiltern Cross Country League.

The Abingdon athlete won the under 15 girls’ race at a very windy Campbell Park in Milton Keynes after outsprinting Morven Goodrum (Windsor) by one second.

Bunn completed the technical two-lap course in 13mins 20secs, backing up her recent victories in the Oxford Mail League and Ox-fordshire Schools Champion-ships.

Abingdon clubmate Kie Francis finished fourth in the under 11 boys’ race, clocking 6.54 for one lap.

Meanwhile, Nick Wiltshire secured third place in the Destination Basingstoke Hampshire League’s under 13 boys standings after coming second in the final round at Salisbury.

The Abingdon athlete, who was running for second-claim club Reading, produced a powerful finish to come home in 10.57.

l Radley AC’s Sophie Tyers was fourth in her 800m heat at the Sainsbury’s British Indoor Championships at Sheffield.

“It was OK,” said Tyers, who has just moved to Loughborough to work with legendary coach George Gandy, “I am out of race practice not having raced for ages, but it is exciting to run in an event like this with so many good runners.”

Clubmate Stuart Ferguson was fifth in his 1500m heat.

“I was just happy to be here,” he said.

“I was one of the slowest in the field and I was just lacking a bit of speed in the last 400, but it was a good race.”

Radley’s third representative, Rosie Kingston, was seventh in her 60m hurdles heat.

She said: “It is the first time that I have competed in the UK Championships, so I am really excited to be here.”
