Fans who bet on Mickey Lewis to become the next Oxford United manager are due to be celebrating tonight, whatever the result against Cheltenham Town.

The fixture is the 49-year-old’s tenth in temporary charge, six weeks after Chris Wilder left the club.

Several bookmakers deem a caretaker to be the new permanent manager once they get into double figures, so will be paying out providing Lewis selects the team this evening.

Punters could have got odds of 7-2 on him shortly after Wilder’s departure in January.

If that has been IL's plan all along why wait 6 weeks, if he is going to
be the new manager then it is goodbye to promotion again this year, and maybe hello mid table.

He won't be the new Manager. Bookies are paying out automatically after 10 games. There's little chance of Mickey getting the job as he hasn't done enough. IL has killed the momentum by not acting fast enough.

What an absolute rubbish story that is factually inaccurate!

The vast majority of bookmakers only pay out on a 1 year contract or longer, the reason the markets have been removed is because of inactivity and ML was best priced 1/2 on with next best at 10/1.

It is not worth traders and risk teams monitoring markets that have almost zero liquidity!

However, the bookies did have him as the only contender when books closed.

Maybe IL knows this, put huge bet(s) on and is just waiting till after tonight's game to claim his winnings. He will then use these winnings to pay compo for his first choice target?

Or maybe not!

Lenagan is running out of time here if we are to even hang on to the playoffs. the players know ML is not getting the job and hes lost his authority now.

Sorry, but your comment is the factually inaccurate one. Having bet on this market myself, the terms are very clear with every bookies I looked at: they use a 10 game limit for declaring a caretaker as "permanent".

It was still possible to get Mickey at evens on Tuesday morning - a very easy way to double your money!
