FOOTBALL fans will be able to bid to be Oxford United chairman for a day, the club announced yesterday, in an auction for the Twin Town Challenge.

Players and club members pledged their support for the charity event and said the successful bidder would be involved in training, board meetings and match day preparations.

Charlbury-based charity SpecialEffect is organising the challenge that involves driving a car worth less than £500 from Witney to its twin town, the seaside resort of Le Touquet in northern France. The auction will take place after the race has finished.

The charity’s vice president, Brendon Cross, said: “This is a really generous offer from Oxford United and we are really grateful.

“The successful bidder will get a chance to really be involved. It promises to be quite a spectacular day.”

The Twin Town Challenge takes place from Friday, May 23 to 26 and will also see the drivers doing ‘fun’ challenges along the route.
