Oxford United's Potter sidelined for a fortnight

Herald Series: Alfie Potter Alfie Potter

ALFIE Potter will miss Oxford United’s home game against Fleetwood Town this weekend with a groin strain.

The winger pulled up in the warm-up at Dagenham & Redbridge on Saturday and is expected to be ruled out for a fortnight.

Gary Waddock, United’s head coach, said: “Hopefully it is just a game or two on the sidelines for him.

“We will monitor that closely and make sure he is right for the important games coming up.”

* TYRONE Marsh’s goal was in vain as Oxford United lost 2-1 in a development game at home to Southend United.

The striker’s neat finish opened the scoring just before the break.

Southend equalised, but Sam Long quickly won a penalty as he was brought down after a surging run.

Jon Meades, who got more valuable minutes under his belt, saw his spot-kick saved.

Southend duly went up the other end and within a minute claimed the winner.

Another player who promised much but delivered little, flattered only to deceive . One of the many reasons we are destined to another season in this Division 4. In my opinion a player who should be let go unless Waddock brings in more attack minded coaches who could get more out of Potter.

Quite right Richard. He was fine running the wing and whipping in crosses but he hardly ever does that. Every time he cuts in, runs out of ideas and gives the ball away. All huff and puff!

Hardly fair. The problem is that the issue may be exacerbated without rest. Two games or two months?

Watching your game against Southend on TV i thought both sides looked dire and plenty of hoofball on show and no one got the ball down and played and if that is what L2 is like then whoever goes up will struggle but i thought you lot and Southend but looked really poor sides and i m not sure you have selected the right manager either as to me he is the cheap option to no where.
Its a good job i support a better team down the road who play in red and white and play football the right way on the floor.
I think you are destined for a longer stint in L2 and i reckon Plymouth could get that last spot as looking at your fixtures you probably have the hardest run in. Typical Oxford start the season well and die a death when it counts.
So dare i say it again FOREVER IN OUR SHADOW.
