London Welsh have made their 24th new signing of the summer after announcing the arrival of second row James Down.

The 6ft 7in forward moves from Cardiff Blues and links up again with Justin Burnell.

Down, 26, was spotted by Burnell as a 16-year-old while playing for Llantwit Fardre in South Wales and the head coach brought him to the Blues.

Although uncapped at full international level, Down was called up to the Wales squad during the 2012 autumn internationals.

Burnell said: “He’s played a lot of rugby in different competitions with Cardiff Blues and he’s another fantastic addition to our squad.”
