GOAL machine John Mills did it again with another double to fire Didcot Town to second place in Southern League Division 1 South & West with victory at Taunton Town.

Mills took his tally to 17 goals as the Railwaymen came from behind to claim three points, and move up to their highest league position for four years.

In truth, Taunton should have had the game wrapped-up by half-time as a mixture of poor finishing, and the crossbar, twice, kept the score at parity until the second period.

Brett Trowbridge was the first player to see his shot hit the woodwork as Taunton started brightly playing down the slope.

Didcot keeper Alex Williams then pulled off a fine save to tip Steve Murray’s shot round a post.

Mills saw an effort deflected just over.

But the home side were still on top and Craig Herrod was cursing his luck when another shot crashed onto the visitors’ crossbar.

Taunton’s pressure finally paid off moments after the break when Murray cut inside and scored neatly at the near post.

Murray had another great chance to double the advantage from the penalty spot.

Incredibly the crossbar came to Didcot’s rescue yet again.

A double substitution saw the visitors resort to a 4-4-2 formation with Josh Dutton-Black and Ben Whitehead coming on for Mike McKirnon and Josh Baines.

It was now all Didcot and Mills came within inches of levelling with a lob that sailed inches over.

He wasn’t to be denied for long, however, and he coolly converted the equaliser on 61 minutes.

Didcot then had a penalty awarded to them on 76 minutes, and Mills made no mistake.

Pablo Haysham almost added to Didcot’s tally in the closing stages.

Didcot Tn: A Williams, Elkins, Organ, Self (Heapy 87), Carnell, Learoyd, McKirnon (Whitehead 53), Baines (Dutton-Black 53), Mills, Haysham, Longford. Subs not used: Bernasconi, McKirnan.
