London Welsh assistant coach Matt Ferguson insists they won’t be daunted by playing at the home of Scottish rugby, writes Matthew Bruce.

The Exiles take on Edinburgh at the 67,000-capacity Murrayfield, but Ferguson said that they will treat it as just another game.

“Our incentive is to continue our development as a team and get that elusive first win,” he said.

“The thought of playing at any venue this year is something we always look forward to.

“Murrayfield is possibly grander than any of the others.

“But it’s still just grass and a set of posts, it’s not so different to Old Deer Park.”

While Welsh’s priority remains Aviva Premiership survival, Ferguson said that the European Challenge Cup is still an important competition.

He said: “This is our most important game, because it’s our next game.”

“It’s the first of a pair of clashes against the Scottish side, as Welsh welcome Edinburgh to the Kassam Stadium next weekend in the return fixture.

And Ferguson stressed the psychological importance of putting in a good performance this weekend.

“The double-header is a unique experience and I’ve already spoken to the players about it,” he said.

“Edinburgh invested heavily, they’ve appointed a new coaching team and they’re obviously very strong in the Pro 12.

“They’re not just going to give it to us on a plate, we have to go out and earn it.”
