Debutant Rio Samson scored a late winner as Vale of White Horse Schools Under 13s opened their Meeson Trophy League campaign with a 1-0 win over Gosport & Fareham at Milton.
With the wind behind them, Vale dominated the goalless first half, but seemed reluctant to shoot.
Sam Bailey had a shot well saved, while Vale keeper Harry Lovett did well to turn a long-range shot around the post.
Vale had the better of the second half, with central defenders Taylor Bedwell and Matt Davies dominant.
The only goal came three minutes from time when a great run and cross from captain Tommy Boyd was headed in by Samson.
