CHRIS Mortimore proved the hero as his goal gave Vale of White Horse under 15s a 1-0 victory over Oxford in the Oxfordshire Schools FA County Cup final at Milton United.
Defences were on top, with Matty Fitzgerald and Joe Blackwell excelling for Vale, with Luke Elliott and Moin Dogar equally dominant for Oxford.
The only goal was scored after 30 minutes when Mortimore raced through the middle and slid the ball home from eight yards.
Oxford hit a post early in the second half.
And Joe Blackwell almost increased Vale’s lead with ten minutes remaining, but his header was well saved.
Having already won the Wright Cup, Vale will now be aiming for a unique treble when they take on Cheltenham in the Hobbs Cup final at Milton United tomorrow.
