ABINGDON’S ladies teams enjoyed a successful day in the second round of the Oxford Mail Cross Country League at Adderbury.

Their A and B outfits topped Divisions 2 and 3 in the north Oxfordshire village.

Abingdon had three runners in the top 20, with Sarah Lackman fourth, Fiona Bunn sixth and Sarah Dudgeon 14th.

Emma Haley finished tenth to help Radley A come third on the day in Division 2 and remain in the top three in the overall standings after two rounds.

Abingdon’s men’s teams finished second in Divisions 1 and 3.

Paul Fernandez led the way for the A side, crossing in second place in a time of 28mins 52secs.

Their Under 15/17 girls were led home in second place by Beth Darwent in fourth, while Abingdon’s boys were also second, with Jack Shayler finishing in the top two.

Radley, once again, dominated the under 13 boys event, with five runners in the top ten.

Benjamin Cumberland took victory in 9.07 and teammate Rowan Miell-Ingram crossed third as the duo head the individual standings.

Meanwhile, organisers have cancelled the third round after being unable to confirm a venue for the event, which was due to be held on Sunday, January 8.

The races were also due to have incorporated the Oxfordshire Cross Country Championships, which has now been moved to January 7. It will be held in conjunction with the Buckinghamshire and Bedfordshire AA Cross Country Championship at Stowe School, Bucks.
