BANBURY United’s play-off hopes ended when they suffered a 1-0 defeat away to second-placed Leamington in the Evo-Stik Southern League yesterday.

Mike Ford’s side needed to win to have a chance of making the Premier Division’s top-five.

Ricky Johnson started at the back, with Manny Duku and Conor McDonagh up front, while Tom Winters was on the bench.

Leamington took the lead in the 20th minute, when Banbury failed to clear a free-kick and Jamie Hood hooked the ball home from six yards.

It was only in the last five minutes of the half that Banbury created an opening, which Sam Humphreys fired over the bar.

The second half was a non-event until stoppage time, when Carnell’s downward header bounced up and skimmed the bar.

George Seacole scored in injury-time equaliser to earn North Leigh a 1-1 draw in their Division 1 South & West derby clash away to Didcot Town.

Ben Whitehead’s strike six minutes from time looked like winning it for the hosts, until Seacole equalised.

The Railwaymen started strongly, testing central defender Stuart Hole who was again deputising in goal in the absence of Manny Agboola and Lewis Clayton.

Just before half-time Whitehead could not convert from close range, while at the other end Michael Hopkins saw his downward header rebound off the bar.

Early in the second period, Taylor Janes forced a great stop from Hole.

Didcot finally broke through when George Jeacock’s throw found Whitehead, who continued his recent goalscoring form by striking past Hole.

But the Millers snatched an equaliser as they won a corner which was headed home by an unmarked Seacole.
